Mad about Mad Men

I´m almost finished watching season 1 of Mad Men and can´t wait to start watching season 2. The show is just so well put together. The characters, locations, sets, drinks, food, music, clothes, hair and I could go on and on and on. The show won an Emmy for best drama series and they so deserve it! Many congrats from me.

Learned it the hard way

I´ll not be posting much, now that my computer has had a meltdown. Kristjan has all our pictures from Honduras (thank God) I have some on my flickr, but other than that...I have lost all my pictures! I had just taken backup of all my video footage, so technically I have´t lost everything on my computer :o/ Kristjan is originally an IT engineer, so he has ordered a new hard-disk and hopefully all will be fixed promptly! I really am sad for my loss, but in a strange way I also feel relieved. Relieved that next time when I`ll turn on my beloved computer, there will be no stuff, no clutter, no mess and I can start a fresh new beginning. I´ll be more organized this time around, I prommise.

Match this

One must say that an artist is kinda mainstream, when he makes and sells matchboxes on his site. Never mind that, Think they´d make a good present for my older sister, Tóra, who unfortunately smokes :o(

Cold Turkey

The hard disk in my beloved computer has had a meltdown, which means that I have not been online since friday. It´s been good & awful all at the same time. I´ll be buying a portable hard disk, and see/hope/pray that Kristjan can save all of our pictures. No internet means plenty of free time and I made two new editions to my "Ugle kid Joe" christmas present project. For more inspiration on pillow owls go to etsy.

Plants equal good karma

A home without plants is the worst! Sometimes when visiting friends I´ll feel like there´s something missing, and that something is almost always plants and flowers – in other words life. I actually prefer buying plants to buying shoes. Do you?

Alvar Alto vs IKEA

I never tier of the shape of the Savoy vase by Alvar Alto and thought that it would make a pretty mat - a bathmat that I´ve been in need of for a long time. I bought the cheap NÄCKTEN in white and blew up the shape of the Savoy vase on to a newspaper and cut the shape out. I then pinned the template on to the mat wich I then cut out. Voila!

Thrifting at the Bella Center

If you´r into Mid Century Modern then visiting Denmark is a very good idea. The quantity of superb objects is huge. No matter what you want you´r very likely to find it at for instance the thrifting fair Bella Center. All I really wished and wanted, when my sister Billa jenny and I went to The Bella Center, was a big Lyngby vase. There were several ones but the first one I saw was cheapest and big enough. On our way home I bought flowers to see how good they looked in my new vase... I´m so pleased.

Who´s the prettiest of them all?

Glyptoteket (meaning collection of sculpture) is a rather exotic decorated building situated in in the center of Copenhagen. Between every window on the first floor there are busts of different animals. They amuse me almost every morning on my way to work...you do know what they say about the ones with big noses, right?!

Christmas present prototype

I finally got a sewing machine last week and boy do I have big plans... There are 150 napkins to be sown, and in order to save money for the wedding, I´ll be sewing almost all christmas prestens. For my youngest godchildren I have along with ahh about 4000 others decided sow stuffed owls. Last night I made a prototype - enjoyed the process and it took me 3 hours to make the owl. Think the owl came out ok, but there are some adjustments, I´ll make it larger with larger ears and form the nose/mouth differently. The best part about my "owl project" is the price, I´ve made a calculation and each owl will be under $ 7.

My great saturday

I spent all saturday morning on thrifting. On my way home I thought to myself that it had´t been a super day thrifting wise, but it was a great day in other ways. I spent at least four hours outside of the city, got some fresh air and saw other things than vesterbro for a change. All in all a super day.

Photos by Nadav Kander

Nadav Kander took these pictures for The New York Post in March 2007 of my birthplace the Faroe Islands. Read the article. I love the colors of the two first pictures. The one with sheep heads is kinda barbaric, but very current. Kristjan will be off to the Faroe Islands this Thursday to join the rest of his family to slaughter some 700 sheeps. I´ve ordered him to bring back as many sheep heads with him as possible. It is one of my favorite eat. To prepare the heads you lightly burn them to remove all wool (the burning process gives the meat a distinct flavor) than you wash the heads thoroughly and cook for 1 hour in salted water. Voila!
